About Imposter: Spot the AI
A free daily puzzle about telling real from fake.
Every day there is a new case: six rounds, each with four photos on a theme. Three are real photographs taken with a camera. One was generated by AI. Your job is to find the imposter in each round. You get one guess.
There is no account and no sign up. Your score, streak and progress are kept on your own device. Everyone gets the same case on the same day, so you can compare results with friends and send them a link to beat your score.
Why we made it
AI images now turn up everywhere: in news feeds, ads, product listings and messages from friends. Most people have never had a chance to practise telling them apart from real photos, and the only feedback they get is finding out later that they were fooled. Imposter gives you that practice in a few minutes a day, with the answer revealed straight away so you learn what you missed.
How a case is made
- Real photos are openly licensed photographs, mostly from Wikimedia Commons, and each one is credited with its photographer and source on the results screen.
- The AI image in each round is generated for that round with an AI image model, prompted to match the theme and style of the real photos beside it.
- Every round is checked before it goes live, and photos that are broken, off-theme or unfair are dropped.
- Answers stay on our server until you guess, so the page itself never contains the solution.
Scoring
You score 100 points for each fake you spot, plus a speed bonus for a fast finish. Pick a real photo and the round is lost: the fake is revealed and you move on. Seasonal themes run through the year, starting with a Halloween special.
